Words of Hope

Words of Hope On April 21st, the Student Leadership Counsel at 29th St. Coalition Center gathered together to write supporting cards for detainees at Eloy Detention Center. Words of hope were written to women and men that are waiting for their case be resolved and be able to stay in this country under a asylum status. Most of these people are from Central America and from South Mexico. Extreme poverty, violence and persecution are the motives that make them leave their home country. The wait for their cases to be concluded may take years, as no lawyer is present to represent them. Casa Mariposa is a group of people here in Tucson that organizes visitation and letter writing to detainees at Eloy Detention Center. Letters make a great positive impact on these people's lives; letters make them feel that some else is caring for them. Words of hope are in need while they are in their unprecedented wait.
